Super Foods for your Hair!

Posted by Krista Bradford on May 29, 2012
Posted in: Uncategorized. Leave a Comment

Just  like the rest of your body, your hair needs steady doses of protein, vitamins, minerals, and oils to thrive.

Get healthy, shiny locks with this Shopping List:

Wild Salmon

In addition to being high in protein, it has scalp-healthy omega 3 fatty acids, as well as B Vitamins 6 and 12, which produce red blood cells to carry oxygen to follicles.

Dose:

4 to 5 oz two to three times per week

Organic Eggs

Packed with protein, eggs also contain lots of vitamins (B5, B12 and D), as well as sulfur, a tress-boosting mineral.

Dose:

An egg a day.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds are rich in lignans, plant-derived chemicals that act as antioxidants. They’re also a great source of hair-nourishing omega-3 fatty acids for vegetarians.

Dose:

1 1/2 tablespoons per day. Blend into a smoothie or toss them on a salad.

Lentils

Lentils provide three important B Vitamins, biotin, folate and B6 as well as protein, iron and zinc, a potent anti-inflammatory.

Dose:

1 Cup, three to four times a week.

Greek Yogurt

It’s steeped in probiotics, the “good bacteria” that aid digestion and boost the immune system. A bad immune system can contribute to hair loss.

Dose:

1 Cup per day.

Walnuts

Walnuts are excellent because of the zinc and fatty acids they provide.

Dose:

1/4 Cup per day.

Quinoa

Loaded with biotin, a B-complex vitamin known to strengthen weak hair, this high-protein seed is a great choice for anyone who is gluten-sensitive or vegetarian.

Dose:

Up to 3/4 Cup per day.

Grass-Fed Beef

Beef provides the most iron of any food, meaning it is absorbed and processed by the body especially well. If you are deficient in iron this is a great source.

Dose:

4 oz per week is plenty.

Sun Kissed DIY Highlights!

Posted by Krista Bradford on May 6, 2012
Posted in: Uncategorized. 1 comment

I know a lot of you guys had a lot of questions after I posted the Easy-Lites tutorial. I wanted to follow up to answer many of those questions. This product is truly revolutionary and I am excited to be sharing it with you.

With the Easy-Lites product your can create permanent, natural looking sun kissed highlights, in just 2 easy steps. No more mess from the caps, hooks and brushes found in at home hair color kits.

This gentle formula lets you add as much or as little highlights to natural or color treated hair shades. It slowly lightens each strand, giving you the control to lift each hair highlight to your desired shade level. Create just a few highlights around your hairline, more highlights throughout, or even allover full hair lightening; you are your own stylist with this revolutionary product. The more often you use it, the light your highlights.

Plus, its formula- with Chamomile Flower and Fruit Blend Extracts leaves your hair nourished, healthy and full of shine.

SUN KISSED HIGHLIGHTS INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1:

On clean dry hair, select 1-3 sections of hair  to be highlight at a time. With gloves on, hold the product 2 inches away from hair and spray on hair throughly and evenly. Do not over saturate. Run your fingers down the section to distribute product evenly.

STEP 2:

Using a heated flat iron (min. 350′F) pass the flat iron over the sprayed sections 5-7 times and watch the highlights paper. Be sure to keep the flat iron moving in a steady motion as you pass over each section. (It is normal to see steam and hear a slight hissing sound while the heat passes over the product until fully dry.)

For greater lightening, repeat steps 1 and 2 on the same section until you achieve your desired shade. Repeat the process on additional sections as desired.

Notice the natural sun kissed highlights and ombre effect we created on my models hair using the product.

Look at how gorgeous the highlight color and tone is next to her natural color.

Easy-Lites also works great on darker hair shades. Check out the color chart below to find your shade.

After Easy-Lites Sun Kissed Highlighting!

SHADE GUIDE:

With the Easy-Lites product you can also do All Over Lightening!

ALL OVER LIGHTENING INSTRUCTIONS:

Recommended for shades of light brown, dark blonde and lighter hair colors.

After shampooing and conditioning, spray throughly and evenly all over towel dried hair from roots to ends (surface and underneath sections), then blow dry and style as desired. For maximum lightening use a flat or curling iron with styling. Hair continues to lighten more with each use. May be repeated for 3-5 uses or until you achieve your desired shade.

*Results and application may vary depending on hair color and texture of hair.

You can purchase Marc Anthony’s Easy-Lites from Ulta, CVS, Rite Aid and other fine retailers.

Romantic, Sexy Side Braid

Have you rocked it yet? The side braid has been a trend for quite some time now and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. It has become a flirty, sexy hairstyle, perfect for summer!

Follow these simple steps for the not so perfect side braid:

  1. Pull all of your hair to one side.
  2. Use a texture or beach spray to create more body and that sexy bed head look.
  3. Do a standard 3 strand braid. Tie off with a clear elastic.
  4. Pull sections of the braid for looser more flirt look. Be creative with this, try leaving the bottom tighter to create a different look.

Healthy Hair Tips

Posted by Krista Bradford on March 27, 2012

Healthy Hair Tips

Follow these tips to have healthy, vibrant, sexy hair for summer!

  • Always tie your hair back when you sleep and use a silk pillow case to help prevent split ends.
  • Avoid brushing your hair when it’s soaking wet. If necessary use a wide tooth comb.
  • When round brushing your hair, blow-dry your hair 80-90% before round brushing. Your hair stretches up to 50% when wet. Brushing or having too much tension on your hair when wet will cause breakage.
  • Only use quality products on your hair. Make sure they are PH balanced. Check out my website for my favorite products!
  • AVOID heat as much as possible. Try and work with your natural texture and let your hair air dry more often. If you find yourself having to use heat to eliminate frizz, try a smoothing keratin treatment.
  • Never flat iron or curl your hair when wet. It will cause heat blisters and severe damage to your hair.
  • Use a deep conditioning treatment 1-2 times per week.
  • Never wrap your hair in a towel when it’s wet. It will cause breakage around your hairline.
  • Get frequent trims to eliminate split ends and to allow your hair to grow thicker and healthier.
  • Try rocking your natural color and color your hair less often. It’s actually in style now to have a little outgrowth. Rock it!
  • Always proper products to protect your hair from heat, sun and the elements.
  • Lastly, RELAX! Stress puts a huge strain on our hair and body. Take deep breaths and relax to healthier hair!

Simple Chic UpDo on Celebs

Posted by Krista Bradford on February 27, 2012

Simple Chic UpDo

I was watching the Oscars last night and  browsing through some of the shows from fashion week and noticed so many celebs wearing a version of the Simple Chic UpDo.

I love this look. It’s so classic yet chic and versatile. I linked the tutorial below for you to check out.

Curly, straight, thin, thick hair, this tutorial looks great on everyone.

TIPS:

THICK HAIR: if you have really thick hair try doing this UpDo with your hair damp it will help in the knotting processes.

CURLY HAIR: Embrace it! Rock those curls. This look is amazing on curly hair. Try doing loose knots for a really romantic look.

THIN HAIR: You can create the illusion of volume with the style. Try a little back combing  and then pull the knot braid apart a little to create extra fullness. This look also looks great as a sleek and modern version.

SHORT HAIR: If you can get one knot in your hair, your hair is long enough for this look. Twist/Knot the hair once and pin pin pin. Then add the side sections or leave some hair down curled around your face.

Hair Extension Q&A’s

Posted by Krista Bradford on January 8, 2012
Posted in: Uncategorized. 2 comments

Thank you for submitting all your hair extension questions!

Are hair extensions damaging?

Hair extensions are NOT damaging as long as they are applied properly and you are fully educated on how to take care of them. My clients actually find that the health and vitality of their hair has increased after having the extensions.

What is the bond made of?

There are several different bonds on the market. My favorite is the HairDreams bond, there is no glue involved. It’s more a material, a nylon fiber. The bond is still flexible after it is applied allowing it to move with your hair. Many bonds are made of Keratin which gets hard as a rock and can be very damaging on your hair.

How long does the application process take?

The application takes anywhere between 1-3 hours depending on how much hair you are adding and the look you are trying to achieve.

Can you get hair extensions if you have curly or textured hair?

Yes! Everyone can get extensions! We customize the hair to perfectly match your texture for a really natural look.

Can you wear your hair in a pony tail?

You can still easily style your hair with extensions. It’s important to tell your stylist how you like to wear your hair so she can customize the application.

Why wouldn’t you just use clip in extensions?

Clip in extensions are great for a special occasion or once a month. They should NEVER be worn everyday. Clip in extensions are very damaging for your hair.  They are usually applied to the same areas on your head causing severe breakage due to the weight of the clip ins and the tension caused by them.

What is the maintenance for extensions?

Maintenance is VERY important when it comes to extensions! Naturally we all loose 80-100 strands of hair a day. This is your natural shedding process. Normally these hairs will come out when your brushing or shampooing your hair but since you have all the individual bonds in, these dead hairs are unable to fall out where the bond is. At the maintenance appointment those fallen hairs around the bonds are trimmed preventing any dreading or damage. I require my clients to come in every 4-6 weeks depending on their individual shedding process.

Can you color your hair with extensions?

It is 100% human hair so you can still cut, color, curl your hair. I recommend going to a color specialist if you decide you want to change the color of the extensions. The porosity is different from the porosity of your hair so the color needs to be adjusted for the perfect blend.

How are hair extensions removed?

They are removed very easily. A remover solution that breaks down the bonds is applied to each bond, after the solution is applied with smooch the bond and slide it out. If you properly have taken care of your extensions this is a very fast process and you will pleasantly shocked at how much the health and vitality of your hair has increased.

How much do hair extensions cost?

The price really depends on what you have and what you are trying to achieve. We charge per length and per bundle. You would have to set up a consultation to really discuss the look you want to achieve to get an exact price.

How long do hair extensions last?

The extensions last anywhere between 3-6 months depending on your natural hair growth process. On average your hair grows a 1/2 inch a month.

Do you have to wait for hair extensions?

After the consultation with your hair stylist the hair extensions are selected exactly according to your desired hair style, your own hair color or your desired color, and your hair structure. Sometime we have hair in stock and can do same day service. If we don’t have the hair in stock , we can order it and receive it within 24 hours.

Are hair extensions hard to care for?

You need to take care of your hair extensions as you would have your own hair.
We have a special hair care line, which is specially formulated to meet the needs of the extensions. The hair extensions are not connected to your scalp and therefore not automatically supplied with natural conditioning substances. The hair care products target this natural deficiency and balance it. When used regularly your  hair will retain its beautiful shine, optimal elasticity and deep color.
